Case Study: Unique Packaging Solution For Leaking Spray Bottles

The Leaking Mess

Nobody likes a leaking product, especially when it’s brand new!

Have you ever arrived home from the store to find that a product has leaked all over the back seat of your car?

Have you ever received a soggy shipping box in the mail due to a product within the box seeping out, ruining everything inside?

It’s not a fun experience.

Whether it was a manufacturing/production issue or a transit mishap, these kinds of incidents give consumers reservations about purchasing the same product again.

This is exactly the issue a disinfectant and cleaning brand was having with their disinfectant spray bottles.

When their consumers ordered household cleaning spray, it often leaked and spilled everywhere, causing a mess and inevitable clean-up inconvenience, but the brand couldn’t figure out if the leaking was coming from the nozzle prematurely clicking from no-spray to spray mode, or if it was leaking from around the screw-on lid area.

With no way to know for sure, they were at a loss for what to do.

This is when they approached our team at Tango Packaging.

The Unique Solution

Since the location of the leaking was uncertain, it would be necessary to cover all possibilities - manufacture a solution that would prevent the bottle from both clicking into spray mode and from leaking around the screw-on cap.

So how was this accomplished?

A dome bag.

A dome bag is a shrink sleeve that is sealed on one side, but open on the other, giving it the shape of a dome or square.

You’ll often find them on gift baskets, ensuring all the goodies stay inside.

In the case of the leaking spray bottle, the dome bag was a perfect solution for preventing leaks during shipping and handling.

The dome bag tightly secures the cap to the bottle and secures the nozzle in the non-spray mode, doubling down on both possible causes of the leaking.

By using shrink sleeves to prevent future leaky messes, the brand was able to quickly turn around their brand image and increase customer satisfaction.
