CBD PACKAGING - 6 WAYS TO STAND OUT IN A RAPIDLY GROWING MARKET

photo-1556928045-16f7f50be0f3.jpeg

The CBD market is predicted to reach $13.4 billion by the year 2028 according to Grand View Research. That’s a staggering 21% growth from the $2.8 billion valuation seen in 2020.

With the market increasing so quickly, and nothing in sight to stop it, CBD companies need to start asking themselves one very important question: How can our brand win more market share?

There are already a vast number of CBD brands to choose from, and based on the statistics mentioned earlier, the number of brands will only increase in the years to come. As a result, the average CBD company needs to start considering how they will differentiate themselves in this overcrowded sea of competitors.

One way to stand out in the rapidly growing market is to choose purposeful packaging. In this blog, we’ll break down the packaging elements CBD companies should consider.

6 Packaging Elements That Are Guaranteed To Differentiate Your CBD Product

Packaging can either make or break your product.

We’ve all heard the famous saying that impressions are made in 7 seconds or less. But did you know that marketing studies have displayed that this not only applies to people, but to brands as well?

If consumers are making their purchasing decisions in 7 seconds or less, this means they’re not meticulously reading through information, comparing prices, or doing research. Instead, they are being influenced by whatever packaging catches their attention first and entices them the most.

Since labels are so critical to consumer decisions, they need to stand out. Here are 6 of the packaging elements to consider including when creating a label for your CBD product:

1. Consider a color that is unique and bold.

This isn’t to say that every label you design needs to be neon or cheetah print. Sometimes a solid black or white can increase a product’s visual impact.

The key to successful color choice is analyzing what your competitors are doing. You’ll want to implement something that is unique from everyone else; something that will draw consumers’ eyes immediately when sitting on a shelf or listed on a website.

But this has to be a fine line to walk - a color that is far too drastic for the market that it’s in can often leave a consumer confused by your product’s purpose. Finding a color that is both eye-catching, but also informative and comfortable to the consumer is important. Consulting a Packaging Expert is extremely valuable when deciding on what color to utilize for your specific market.

It’s also important to note that label color and text color should compliment each other well. If the text is difficult to read, this can be extremely problematic due to the nature of the market. Safety instructions, THC level, etc, all need to be clearly legible.

2. Ensure Consumers their product is pure and safe with Tamper Evidence.

Because CBD products are used directly on the consumer, oftentimes even consumed, consumers need to be reassured that their product purity hasn’t been compromised. If you’re not employing protective packaging, but your competitors are, you will be left at a disadvantage and likely to lose those consumer dollars. Why would any consumer gamble their safety or their family’s safety if they can easily find an alternative?

There are several types of tamper evidence that can be utilized to get the job done. But, our team at Tango always strongly encourages the use of visible tamper evidence. A visible form would be a neck band, which wraps around the neck and cap of a product, clearly displaying to the consumer that no one has opened the product before them.

While an induction seal, which seals under the cap, still gets the job done just fine, the only problem is that your consumers can’t see it until they purchase the product and open it up at home. If the consumers can actually see the tamper evidence in the store, it’s likely to foster greater trust and loyalty.

Don’t risk losing consumer trust, consumer dollars, and consumer loyalty. Implement some sort of tamper evidence, and consider making it a visible form.

Another fantastic benefit of tamper evident packaging is that it can prevent unwanted spillage. There is nothing worse than opening up a bag and finding out that a bottle tipped over and spilled everywhere, wasting the contents and creating a mess. Consumers often harbor negative impressions of products that have spilled prematurely, whether it was the product’s fault or their own.

A tamper evident seal will prevent anything going in or anything going out.

3. Utilize a large enough label to fit everything.

A lot of details are required on a CBD label. Barcodes, QR codes, FDA warnings, amount of CBD in each serving, safety instructions, application/consumption instructions, a dazzling logo, eye-catching designs, contact information, and more. Trying to squeeze all these elements can be difficult with a standard label. Using a shrink sleeve label, which utilizes every inch of the container, helps fit everything in an appealing and satisfactory manner.  With a shrink sleeve, there will be ample room for all the elements mentioned above and more!

4. Distinguishing your brand using humor and creativity

As mentioned before, there are already a lot of competitors in this market, and it’s only predicted to increase in the years to come. Another way to stand out from the crowd is through humor and creativity.

Customers resonate with brands that utilize humor or clever ideas. Implementing these in your label will help your consumers see your brand first, and remember it for next time.

Sometimes a little humor is all it takes to keep your consumers coming back for more.

5. High Quality Packaging = High Quality Product

Want to know a little secret about the average consumer’s brain? Packaging studies show that the majority of consumers actually associate the quality of a product’s packaging with the quality of the product inside.

This consumer purchasing habit is even more important in the CBD industry. Whenever a consumer is going to consume or apply a product for their health, they’re going to be cautious about the quality of the product. Nobody wants to ingest a product of questionable quality.

Investing in high quality packaging for your product will let your consumer know that you only sell the best-of-the-best. Don’t sacrifice your product’s success by shaving off a few dollars in packaging costs. It won’t be worth it in the end.

6. Packaging that photographs well.

According to a study done by SingleCare.com on where CBD was being purchased from, an incredible 27% of all CBD purchases were from online retailers.

This means your CBD product needs to photograph well. Shoppers still make the same purchasing decisions online that they do in the store. Great looking, high quality, bold and attention-grabbing labels will still win consumers online just as they do on the shelf. Make sure your label accomplishes all these things while also looking stunning in front of the lens.
